It is critical to the performance and longevity of your BATA softball pitching machine that you use BATA brand dimpled pitching machine softballs.  The accuracy and consistency of each pitch depends upon how well the pitching machine wheel grips the outer surface of the ball.  BATA pitching machines are optimized for BATA pitching machine softballs.  In fact, BATA machines are not guaranteed to work with other brands of dimpled balls.

BATA dimpled pitching machine softballs are specifically designed for superior performance with BATA pitching machines.  They are 10% lighter than a regular softball, so they are pitched a little faster and curve the same amount as a real pitch.  They are also slightly softer than a leather softball, so they have less impact on the bat.  They pitch more consistently than leather balls because they have a 100% consistent surface with no seams.  The seams (and space in between the seams) on leather softballs can affect how the pitching wheel grips the ball and can make the pitch inaccurate.  The abrasive surface of the seams also wears out the wheels faster.
